As used in this policy, the terms “using” and “processing” information include subjecting the information to statistical or other analysis and using or handling information in any way, including, but not limited to collecting, storing, evaluating, modifying, deleting, using, combining, disclosing and transferring information within our organization or among our affiliates.
Types of Data We Collect
(A) “Personal Data” means data that allows someone to identify or contact you, including, for example, your name, address, telephone number, email address, as well as any other non-public information about you that is associated with or linked to any of the foregoing data. “Anonymous Data” means data that is not associated with or linked to your Personal Data; Anonymous Data does not, by itself, permit the identification of individual persons. We collect Personal Data and Anonymous Data, as described below.(A) Information You Provide to Us
• We may collect Personal Data from you, such as your first and last name, location, phone number, email and mailing addresses, company name, employment history, education history, interests, hobbies, personal summary, profile picture, lifestyle information, schedule/ availability, and professional and personal references.
• We retain information on your behalf, such as files and messages that you store using your Account.
• If you provide us feedback or contact us via e-mail, we will collect your name and email address, as well as any other content included in the email, in order to send you a reply.
• When you post content (text, images, photographs, messages, comments or any other kind of content that is not your email address) on our Site, the information contained in your posting will be stored in our servers and other users will be able to see it, along with your profile photo and any other information that you choose to make public on your public profile page (“Profile”). The information that you provide in your Profile will be visible to others, including anonymous visitors to the Site.
• When you post messages on the message boards of our Site, the information contained in your posting will be stored on our servers and other users will be able to see it.
• When you participate in one of our surveys, we may collect additional profile information.
• We also collect other types of Personal Data that you provide to us voluntarily, such as your operating system and version, product registration number, and other requested information if you contact us via e-mail regarding support for the Service.
• We may also collect Personal Data at other points in our Site that state that Personal Data is being collected.
(B) In the course of using either Sites or Services (e.g., in connection with your registration as a User or Mentor/Tutor), we will ask you for personally identifiable information. This refers to information about you that can be used to contact or identify you (“Personal Information”). Personal Information includes, but is not limited to, your name, credit card or other billing information and email address. We use your Personal Information mainly to provide the Services and administer your inquiries.
(C) We also collect the other information that you provide as part of your use of either Sites or Services (e.g., school, academic history, performance, major and area of academic interest) (“Non-Identifying Information”). If you register to use the Services as a Mentor, we will also collect related information including, but not limited to, your academic year and a description of your mentoring/ tutoring services and interests.
(D) If you register to use the Services as a Mentor, our third party service providers will collect certain information, such as your name and email address, from you to enable us to make payments to you in connection with your activities on the Site and Services.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
If you decide to use the Services to connect in-person, over email and/or video or text chat with a Mentor online, you may share your Personal Information with the Mentors with whom you connect and/or video chat or text chat. If you interact with a Mentor via the Site or Services (e.g., to schedule consultations), we will share your first name (or the name of the student, as applicable) with the applicable Mentor in order to facilitate the scheduling or communication request. Additionally, if you chose to make any User Content available via the Services, we will share such User Content in accordance with the selections you make via the Services (including with Mentors, as applicable). Any information you provide before participating in Lesson Services (e.g., information on what you’d like to cover in such Lesson Services) may be shared with the applicable Mentor and publicly via the Services in connection with your first name. We recommend that you guard your sensitive information.
As a User, if you choose to post a Question via the Services, your Question and Mentor responses to your Question, if any, will be publicly viewable via the Services. We may also share your first name with any Mentor who is eligible to respond to your Question via the Services. If, as a Mentor/ Tutor, you choose to post a response to a Question via the Services, your response will be publicly viewable via the Services, along with the profile information described under “Mentors” below. All responses you make to Questions via the Services will be connected to your Mentor/ Tutor profile.
If you register to use the Services as a Mentor, your name, hometown, school you attend and attended, school year, academic major, career aspirations. mentoring/ tutoring experience, listed interests (extracurriculars), mentoring/ tutoring subjects (curriculum), profile picture, personal summary, current availability, and any additional information on your mentoring/ tutoring areas of expertise that you provide via the Services may be publicly viewable via the Site. Mentorverse may also use information related to responses you made in the past via the Services make available publicly via the Site estimated response rates and times related to your use of the Services. We make this information available so that Users and Mentorverse Visitors can find Mentors who meet their academic needs. You may edit your profile information at any time by contacting us at email@example.com. In addition, if you chose to make any User Content available via the Services, we will share such User Content in accordance with the selections you make via the Services (including with Users, as applicable).
(D) User Reviews, Comments, & Feedback
We often receive testimonials and comments from users who have had positive experiences with our Service. We occasionally publish such content. If, in connection with your use of the Services, you choose to leave reviews or comments related to a Mentor, you understand and agree that the content of those reviews or comments may be publicly viewable via the Site, in connection with the applicable Mentor or otherwise. Any such reviews and comments may contain your first name and may also include your home city only, but will not contain any additional Personal Information. However, if the reviews or comments are specific to a particular Mentor, such Mentor may be able to discern your identity by reading such reviews or comments in connection with your first name.
(E) Aggregate Information and Non-Identifying Information
We may share aggregated information that does not include Personal Information and we may otherwise disclose Non-Identifying Information and Log Data with third parties for industry analysis, demographic profiling and other purposes. Any aggregated information shared in these contexts will not contain your Personal Information.
(F) Service Providers
We may employ third party companies and individuals to facilitate our Services, to provide the Services on our behalf, to perform Site-related services (e.g., without limitation, maintenance services, database management, payment processing, web analytics and improvement of the Site’s features) or to assist us in analyzing how our Site and Services are used. These third parties have access to your Personal Information only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.
(G) Compliance with Laws and Law Enforcement
Mentorverse cooperates with government and law enforcement officials and private parties to enforce and comply with the law. We will disclose any information about you to government or law enforcement officials or private parties as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate to respond to claims and legal process (including but not limited to subpoenas), to protect the property and rights of Mentorverse or a third party, to protect the safety of the public or any person, or to prevent or stop activity we may consider to be, or to pose a risk of being, illegal, unethical or legally actionable activity.
(H) Business Transfers
Mentorverse and 99Dreams may sell, transfer or otherwise share some or all of its assets, including your Personal Information, in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets or in the event of bankruptcy.
Use of Your Personal Data
(A) General Use
In general, Personal Data you submit to us is used either to respond to requests that you make, or to aid us in serving you better. We use your Personal Data in the following ways:
• facilitate the creation of and completion of your profile on our Site;
• identify you as a user in our system;
• provide improved administration of our Site and Service;
• provide the Service;
• improve the quality of experience when you interact with our Site and Service;
• send you a welcome email to verify ownership of the email address provided when your Account was created;
• send you administrative email notifications, such as information about pending mentorship offers, security or support and maintenance advisories;
• respond to your inquiries related to mentorship opportunities or other requests;
• make telephone calls to you, from time to time, as a part of secondary fraud protection or to solicit your feedback;
• Mentorverse and 99Dreams reserve the right to sell Personal Data (excluding credit card and other billing information) collected from users, mentors, and grant applicants to applicable third parties.
(B) Creation of Anonymous Data
We may create Anonymous Data records from Personal Data by excluding information (such as your name) that makes the data personally identifiable to you. We use this Anonymous Data to analyze request and usage patterns so that we may enhance the content of our Service and improve Site navigation. We reserve the right to use and sell Anonymous Data for any purpose and disclose Anonymous Data to third parties in our sole discretion.
(C) Marketing and Promotional Material
We also use your Personal Information to contact you with Mentorverse newsletters, marketing or promotional materials and other information that may be of interest to you. (D) Log Data
When you visit the Site, whether as a registered user or a non-registered user just browsing (any of these, an “Mentorverse Visitor”), our servers automatically record information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website (“Log Data”). This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, and browser type. We use this information to monitor and analyze use of the Site and the Services and for the Site’s technical administration, to increase our Site’s functionality and user-friendliness, and to better tailor it to our visitors’ needs.
Changing or Deleting Your Information
All registered users may review, update, correct or delete the Personal Information they have provided to Mentorverse via the Site and Services by contacting us directly. If you completely delete all such information, then your Account may become deactivated. If you would like us to delete your Account in our system, please contact us at email@example.com with a request that we delete your Personal Information from our database. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to honor your request. We may retain an archived copy of your records as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.
Invite a Friend
If you choose to invite a friend to use the Site and Services, we may collect the email address of such friend for the purpose of sending a one-time email invitation to use the Site and Services. Your friend may request that we delete his or her email address from our records by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org Security of Your Personal Data
Mentorverse is committed to protecting the security of your Personal Data. We use a variety of industry-standard security technologies and procedures to help protect your Personal Data from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, while Mentorverse uses reasonable efforts to protect your Personal Data, Mentorverse cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Identity theft and the practice currently known as “phishing” are of great concern to Mentorverse. Safeguarding information to help protect you from identity theft is a top priority. We do not and will not, at any time, request your credit card information, login information, or national identification numbers in a non-secure or unsolicited e-mail or telephone communication. Third Party Websites
Our Policy Toward Children
This Site and Services are not directed to persons under 12. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 12. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with Personal Information without their consent, he or she should contact us at email@example.com. If we become aware that a child under 12 has provided us with Personal Information, we will delete such information from our files.
